Skin Tightening Q & A

What options are available for wrinkles and fine lines?

Botox® and Dysport® are injectables that block signals of the nerves to the muscles in the face that make wrinkles and fine lines so apparent. Repetitive actions, such as squinting, smiling, and frowning contribute to fine lines and wrinkles. Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved and are effective on crow’s feet, lip lines, smile lines, and wrinkles on the forehead.

How long do the results of Botox and Dysport last?

Both treatments temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Results vary, but tend to last for between three and four months. Lines and wrinkles gradually reappear until another treatment session.

What if I have lost volume in my face?

Skin changes that occur with aging include thinning, fat loss, and reduction of firmness and smoothness. Sun exposure, smoking, and pollution exacerbate these changes. Injectable fillers, such as Restylane®, restore plumpness in areas in your face that have lost their volume. They contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that exists in your skin. As you age, hyaluronic acid diminishes, resulting in a reduction in skin fullness and elasticity. By restoring this compound, these fillers rejuvenate your look and make you look younger.

Do injectable skin-tightening treatments hurt?

Botox, Dysport, and Restylane do involve injections, so you should expect some discomfort. Dr. Schwartz uses superfine needles, however, and the treatment is brief. She may also offer a topical anesthetic if your skin is sensitive.

What treatments are available for sagging skin?

Dr. Schwartz offers TITAN, an infrared skin treatment to tighten skin and improve sagging. It’s effective around the jawline, neck, and chin. TITAN treatments are noninvasive, but effective in producing smoother, younger-looking skin.

An FDA-approved device, TITAN penetrates through the surface of your skin to heat the dermis. This prompts the skin to produce more collagen, a natural compound that contributes to healthy, firm skin. It acts like a mini facelift, but without the invasive surgery and long recovery time.
